To achieve the best results, the surfaces need to be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, grit and grime.
- Remove any old, substandard or flaking paint either by sanding or through the use of a paint scraper
- Extra precautions will need to be taken when preparing surfaces that contain pre-1960s paint as they could contain harmful levels of paint
- Any organic growths such as mould, fungi or algal, will need to be cleaned away with a scouring pad and a bleach solution (1 part to 3 parts water)
- If necessary, wash the surface to remove any dust, dirt, oil or grease with a suitable detergent, rinse with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly
- Porous surfaces or new, dry plaster will need to be primed with Craig And Rose 1829 All Purpose Undercoat or a suitable alternative
Please Note:
- Craig And Rose Artisan Rust Effect is not suitable for highly absorbent surfaces
- Keep out of the reach of children due to the solution containing harmful substances
Always create a test area before the full application to judge the suitability and final finish of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times
To guarantee the consistency of the colour, if multiple tins have been purchased the mix together in a large container to ensure regularity of colour and tone.
Avoid applying Craig and Rose Artisan Rust Effect if the air temperature or surface temperatures are likely to be close to freezing as this will damage the structure of the paint.
- Stir and blend the paint thoroughly, ensuring the sides and the base of the tin are worked through, to guarantee an even distribution of the pigment as the metal particles may settle
- Do NOT thin the base paint as this will dilute the pigment and base paint
- Apply the first two generous coats of Craig & Rose Artisan Rust Effect with a wide brush
- The best results are attained through using a wide brush and the use of a roller or spray system is not recommended
- Rust effect works best when applied in random brush strokes
- Allow the first coat to dry and then apply a second coat of Rust Effect using the same method
- If an application of the Craig And Rose Artisan Rust Activator Solution is planned, then let the surface dry for 12 hours
Please Note:
- On exterior surfaces, the rust effect will continue to develop over time
- If you chose to use a wax to seal the wall after application, this will change the finished effect
