Crown Trade Acrylic Satin Finish is a water based alternative to its traditional solvent based satin equivalent, offering a smooth elegant finish, minimal visible yellowing and developed to provide good flow. Suitable for internal and external woodwork and correctly primed metalwork

To achieve the best results it is important that all surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
New Wood Surfaces
- Prime/Undercoat the surface with one coat of Crown Trade New Build Acrylic Primer Undercoat or Crown Trade Acrylic Primer Undercoat
Timber and Timber Based Boards (including MDF)
- Treat any knots with two coats of knotting solution
- Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with a suitable filler
- Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper
- Remove all dust
All Metals
- Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface - excluding galvanised surfaces
- Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
- Allow to dry
- When dry, prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer or a suitable metal primer, followed by one coat of Crown Trade New Build Acrylic Primer Undercoat or Crown Trade Acrylic Primer Undercoat
Galvanised Metal
- Bright galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a T Wash/Mordant Solution
- Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface preparation
- When dry, prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
Non Ferrous Metals
- Prime bare metal with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
Ferrous Metals
- Remove all mill scale and rust back to clean bright metal. Remove all residues
- When dry prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
Previously Decorated Wood Surfaces
- All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
- Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water
- Any glossy or eggshell surfaces must be wet abraded to provide a key
- Rinse with clean water to remove all residues and allow to dry
- Spot prime bare areas with one coat of Crown Trade New Build Acrylic Primer Undercoat
Previously Decorated Metal Surfaces
- All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
- Remove all corrosion or rust back to clean bright metal
- Spot prime bare areas with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
- Bring forward spot primed areas and undercoat overall with Crown Trade New Build Acrylic Primer Undercoat
Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.
Do not apply when air or substrate temperatures are likely to fall below 8°C or when the relative humidity is above 80% during application or the drying period.
Certain colours may require additional coats to obtain complete obliteration. Newly painted doors and windows should not be closed until the paint is fully dry. Crown Trade Acrylic Primer Undercoat can be used as an alternative though the finish application characteristics will be limited.
- Stir well before and during use
- Application can be performed with either a medium pile roller or a good quality synthetic brush
- To assist application on porous substrates the surface may be dampened slightly
- Maintain a wet edge
- On timber lay off in the direction of the grain
- Avoid excessive de-nibbing in-between coats
- For airless spray dilution may be required. For further information follow the spray manufacturer's guidelines
- Under normal drying conditions touch dry in 1-2 hours and recoat after 4-6 hours. Ensure previous coat is fully dry before application
- At low temperatures or high humidity drying times may be extended
Between maintenance redecoration, surfaces may be washed with a warm water and liquid detergent solution to remove surface dirt.
