Osmo Country Colour is the best of both worlds for summerhouses, exterior joinery, cladding, fences, planters and much more. It provides, the opacity and hiding power of paint, won't crack or peel and will have high coverage and spread like you'd expect from an oil finish. It's microporous coating allows the wood to breathe and moisture and extractives to come through without breaking the coating.
- Prefer a water-based, low odour finish instead? See Osmo Garden Colour
Please note: this product is not suitable for projects made from Idigbo or areas that take footfall, such as steps or decking. Rough sawn wood types will cause the coverage rate to drop dramatically and as a result isn't recommended.
Most wood types, including pressure treated timber will need a weathering period of between 6-12 weeks after installation before treatment with Osmo Country Colours, consult the supplier of your timber for exact information before carrying out treatment.
For the best results, ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- All previous paints, varnish and other coatings should be completely removed before treatment
- Treat any mould, mildew or other stains with a suitable fungicide cleaner
- Fill any cracks, holes or splits with a suitable filler
- Use a compatible wood preserver on bare or old, untreated timber
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Do not apply to wet wood or if inclement weather is expected.
- Stir thoroughly before and during use, making sure to reach the pigment in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Working in smaller, manageable areas, apply very thinly using Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Premium Roller, Brush and Tray Set
- Remove any excess with microfibre cloth, lint-free cotton cloth or Osmo Easy Pads
- Clean tools after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000)
- Allow 10-12 hours to dry between coats
- Note that the first coat may not be as opaque as uniform as required but this is to be expected and the finish will even out with the second coat
- Lightly abrade the surface with a mildly abrasive pad and remove all sanding dust with a cloth slightly dampened with methylated spirit and allow the surface to dry for 5 mins
- Apply the second coat in the same manner as the first and allow to dry for 24 hours before use is resumed
Inspect annually for imperfections. Maintenance should only be carried out when the surface looks tired and worn.
When it's time for a refresh, simply apply a fresh coat of Osmo Country Colour as required, making sure the surface to be painted is nice and clean and clear of dirt and other surface contaminants. Apply one fresh, new coat to the affected areas. Any patchy or flaky areas should be taken back to bare and treated as such
