- A high-build, hard wax oil for interior wooden doors
- A durable, moisture and dirt resistant finish
- Microporous finish won't crack or peel
Not all veneered doors are made the same. It's always best to check with the supplier of veneered or engineered doors to see what the recommended product is before the application of any product. This will quite often be found in the paperwork included with the door when it is new. Applying the wrong product to your doors could have disastrous consequences.
Osmo Door Oil is a blended hard wax oil finish designed for interior wooden doors, architrave and surrounding furniture. Can also be applied to skirting boards, cabinets and other low-traffic projects to match. It's saliva-resistant and sweatproof.
Available in two options:
- Osmo Door Oil Clear 3060, enriches and brings out the natural wood colour, with a slight sheen
- Osmo Door Oil Raw 3033, preserves the look of the bare, unfinished wood, matt finish
Also available: Osmo Top Oil, a special formula for interior worktops and tabletops.
For the best results with Osmo Door Oil, ensure that surfaces to be oiled are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease. This product is ready to use directly from the container, do not thin.
- For previously painted, stained, waxed, lacquered or varnished doors, all previous finishes must be completely removed back to bare wood and sanded no finer than p120
- Previous oil finishes can be rubbed down with p120 sandpaper and sanding residue removed with methylated spirits or vacuuming
- On bare wood, ensure any gaps, nail holes or splits are filled with a suitable filler, such as Osmo Interior Gap Sealer for long, linear gaps
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Stir thoroughly before and during use.
- Working in smaller, manageable areas, apply very thinly using Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller
- Remove any excess as you go with microfibre cloth, lint-free cotton cloth or Osmo Easy Pads
- With Raw (3033), white pigment should not be seen on the surface, keep removing excess until this is the case
- Clean tools after use with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000)
- Allow 24 hours to dry between coats
- De-nib the surface with an abrasive pad or sandpaper at p150-p180 and vacuum to remove all sanding dust
- Apply the second coat in the same manner
- Allow 24 hours until the door is re-installed and light use is resumed, full cure will be achieved in 2-3 weeks, so care should be taken until this point
Day to day cleaning of Osmo Door Oil should be carried out with a pH neutral cleaner on an as-and-when basis.
When it's time to refresh and renovate, lightly sand the surface to be treated with P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, remove all sanding dust with a vacuum and apply one maintenance coat to the affected using the preparation and application steps above.
