Osmo Polyx Oil is the answer to many questions asked by your interior wooden surfaces. Perfect for application to many different wood types, in many different projects. A tough and durable water-repellent finish that will protection from spills such as wine, beer, coffee and cola. Scuff resistant finish will not crack, peel or blister.
Perfect for many types of soft to medium density wood, including pine, oak, spruce, beech, ash, larch, birch and much more. Can also be used on other types of porous, un-polished or un-glazed stone tiles and terracotta.
Please note: this product is not suitable for very hard or resinous types of wood such as Iroko, Mahogany, Idigbo, Teak, Ipe, Wenge, Rosewood. Test areas are encouraged to ensure compatibility.
Want to preview how this will look on bare wood before buying samples? Get a lightly damp cloth and gently wipe the wood down. This wet look mimics the finished look of Osmo Polyx Oil.
If this look is too dark or too orange etc, consider Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044) instead.
For the best results, ensure that surfaces to be oiled are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- All previous paint and varnishes must be removed back to bare wood with a suitable paint stripper and sanded working up through the grits, finishing no finer than P120
- Previous oil and wax finishes can be just lightly sanded with P120 and then wiped down with methylated spirits to remove any sanding residue
- On bare wood, ensure gaps and nail holes are filled with a suitable filler, such as Osmo Interior Gap Sealer for long, linear splits
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin.
- Stir Osmo Polyx Oil thoroughly before and during use, making sure to reach the contents in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Working in smaller, manageable areas, apply very thinly using Osmo Soft Tip Brush for smaller projects and Osmo Microfiber Floor Roller for larger areas such as floors
- For cork floors, apply thinly with a double-bladed scraper for thinnest possible application
- Remove any excess as you go with microfibre cloth, lint-free cotton cloth or Osmo Easy Pads
- Allow 8-10 hours between coats to dry, cork should be left for 24 hours
- Brushes can be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000)?
- De-nib the surface with a P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, using a vacuum to remove all sanding dust
- Apply second coat in the same manner, applying very thinly
- Allow 8-10 hours before resuming light use of the area, full hardness and cure will be achieved over 2-3 weeks after the final coat
- Ventilate well and avoid putting floor covering furniture, rugs and carpets back on the area if possible, during this curing stage
Day to day cleaning of Osmo Polyx Oil should be carried out with a pH neutral cleaner on an as-and-when basis. For larger areas, an electric floor polisher can be used.
Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this will destroy the oiled finish.
When it's time to refresh and renovate, lightly sand the surface to be treated with P150-P180 abrasive pad or sandpaper, remove all sanding dust with a vacuum and apply one maintenance coat to the affected using the preparation and application steps above.
