A versatile exterior eggshell paint with a silky 20% sheen, Farrow and Ball Exterior Eggshell delivers rich, long lasting colour for exterior wood and metal. Suitable for everything from window frames and cladding to guttering and railings, its flexible, resin rich formula expands and contracts with the weather to help prevent flaking, peeling and fading for up to six years, while added preservatives protect against algae and fungi.
Please Note: Not suitable for use on plastic, exterior decking or other pressure treated wood.
Farrow & Ball 6 Year Exterior Eggshell can be applied to various exterior substrates, please refer to the product data sheet for a comprehensive guide to preparation.
For best results, ensure the project area is clean, dry and structurally sound before painting. All surfaces should be free from dirt, dust, grease and other contaminants to help achieve a smooth finish and long lasting protection.
- Remove any loose, flaking or unsound paint using sandpaper or apaint scraper, using a wet sanding technique where appropriate.
- Take extra care when preparing pre 1960s painted surfaces on wood or metal, as these may contain hazardous levels of lead.
- If organic growth such as mould, fungi, lichen or algae is present, treat the surface with a suitable fungicidal wash, such as Dulux Trade Weathershield Fungicidal Wash before painting.
- Use a suitable detergent to remove oil, grease or stubborn contaminants, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Repair cracks, holes and surface defects using an appropriate exterior filler, for instance Prestonett Quick Dry Exterior Filler allowing it to fully cure before sanding smooth.
- Treat any resinous knots in wood with a suitable Knotting Solution knotting solution to help prevent staining.
- For iron and steel surfaces, remove all loose scale, corrosion and rust using a wire brush or abrasive paper.
- Finish by rinsing all prepared surfaces with clean water to remove dust and residues, then allow to dry thoroughly before painting.
Always produce a test area before application to confirm colour, finish and suitability. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
For colour consistency, it is recommended to purchase sufficient paint for the entire project, including a small amount for future touch ups.
Do not apply when air or surface temperatures are likely to fall below 10°C, or in excessive heat above 30°C. Avoid painting in direct sunlight or when rain is likely, and apply early in the day to allow adequate drying before evening.
- Stir the paint thoroughly before use and regularly during application to ensure an even distribution of pigment and paint medium.
- Apply Farrow and Ball Exterior Eggshell using a high quality synthetic brush or roller, such as Osmo Premium Roller, Brush and Tray Set or suitable spray equipment.
- If applying by spray, follow the manufacturer's guidance for correct dilution and application settings.
- When using a brush, maintain a wet edge to achieve an even finish and consistent opacity.
- On wooden surfaces, lay off in the direction of the grain for best results.
- The recommended finishing system is two full coats, although additional coats may be required when applying darker or stronger colours.
Wipe gently with a soft damp cloth or sponge. Some cleaning solutions may mark the surface. Test on an inconspicuous area before use. Do not use bleach-based cleaning products. Allow at least 14 days before cleaning to allow the paint film to fully cure.
