Overview
Overview
Paint tester pots are what you need for narrowing down colour choices. Watch our video guide about the best way to use them and how-to get the most out of your samples.
When used correctly, they allow you to see how a shade looks in your space under different lighting conditions and alongside existing décor. Testing first reduces the risk of choosing the wrong colour and gives you confidence in your final decision. For best results, tester paint should be applied to a movable surface rather than directly onto the wall, allowing you to assess the colour throughout the room.
Preparation
Preparation
- Select a suitable surface - Use lining paper, card or sample boards for best results.
- Stir well - Ensure the paint is fully mixed for accurate colour.
- Clean the surface - Remove dust, grease and any contamination before applying.
- Identify samples - Label each one clearly with the colour name or code.
Application
Application
Apply evenly with a brush or small roller to achieve a smooth, even finish.
- Apply two coats - Allow adequate drying time between coats.
- Check in varied lighting - View in daylight, shade and artificial light.
- Take your time - Observe the colour at different times of day before deciding.
- Move samples around - Compare colours against walls, trim and furnishings.
