Please note: this product is not suitable for areas of high traffic such as handrails. Substrates which have had water-repellent preservative treatments should be avoided as adhesion will likely be compromised. Barn Paint cannot be used on glass externally. Barn Paint will not adhere to stainless steel and is not recommended for decking.
For the best results from Bedec Barn Paints, ensure that surfaces painted are clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and grease.
- Remove fungal and algal growth with a suitable fungicidal cleaner
- Smooth or glossy surfaces should be lightly abraded for adhesion
- Ensure bare steel is free from rust and scale and apply suitable metal primer
- Pressure treated timber should be allowed to weather for at least 6 months before painting
- Grey, denatured wood should be abraded
- New, planed wood should also be sanded to open the grain and allow for maximum adhesion
- Where there is risk of staining, tannin bleed or exudates from knots in wood, a stain blocking primer should be applied, a knotting solution is not recommended
- Allow new creosote 3 months to weather
- Etching, or priming galvanised steel is not necessary, allow new galvanised steel to weather for 2 months before painting with Barn Paint
Always try a test area before starting any project to assess compatibility of the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply if there is risk of rain or fog. Do not apply to damp or frozen surfaces.
- Stir thoroughly before and during use, making sure to reach the pigment in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- On bare wood, cement, render, plaster brick or any other porous substrate, the first coat should be thinned with up to 30% clean water
- Apply Bedec Barn Paint Matt with a brush, roller of HVLP or airless spray
- Apply 3 coats to bare substrates, 2 coats are normally sufficient for pre-painted projects, allowing 4 hours to dry between
