- A solvent-based primer for interior and exterior wood
- Great as a sealer of old creosote or bitumen finishes
- Ideal for priming oily, resinous hardwoods
Dulux Trade Aluminium Wood Primer is a solvent-based primer made from aluminium pigment for interior and exterior wood. It has outstanding sealing qualities which makes it ideal for those tricky jobs, such as sealing oily, resinous hard woods or priming projects previously treated with creosote or bitumen-based finishes. This can also be used as part of the Dulux Trade Aluminium paint system.
- For a general purpose primer, suitable for most projects, why not take a look at Dulux Trade Wood Primer
To get the best results from Dulux Trade Aluminium Primer, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease wax etc.
- Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth or vacuum all traces of sanding dust. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
- Remove any mould or organic growth with Dulux Trade Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash
- Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
- For new or bare wood, clean and de-grease the surface by wiping over with methylated spirit
Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
- Stir the thoroughly before and periodically during use, making sure to reach pigment in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply with a high-quality synthetic bristle paint brush only, using a roller or spray is not recommended
- 1 coat is usually sufficient for normal projects, however resinous hardwoods or old bitumen/creosote finishes will require 2 coats of aluminium primer
- Allow 24 hours to dry for most projects, if treating old creosote or bitumen finishes, these will require 48 hours to dry before a topcoat is applied
Once completely dry, Dulux Trade Aluminium Wood Primer can be finished with an appropriate Dulux Trade paint system. See our full range of Dulux Trade finishes, here.
