- A water-based primer for the Dulux Trade Weathershield system
- Provides increased opacity and even sheen level
- Offers 8 year all weather protection
- Part 2 of 3
Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Flexible Undercoat. Part 2 of 3 in the Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick-Dry, water-based system. A water-based undercoat to aid adhesion between Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Preservative Primer and a suitable topcoat.
It has great flexibility to help absorb the natural movement of wood. It also helps with strong colour changes when applied directly to previously painted wood, meaning a colour change happens in less coats of a viable topcoat, such as Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Paint.
Please note: the offered 8 years, all weather protection advertised, is only when all three components of the Dulux Weathershield system are used in conjunction together.
- Prefer a solvent-based system instead? See Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat followed by Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior High Gloss
To ensure the best results, ensure surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free of dirt, dust and other surface contaminants.
- Bare wood surfaces should be primed with 2 coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Preservative Primer, following the relevant instructions
- New joinery is often factory primed using a stain basecoat (often called a dual-purpose primer). These materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed
- Remove all loose and defective coatings. If coatings are removed back to bare wood, these surfaces will need priming, as above
- Treat any mould or lichen with a suitable fungicidal cleaner, such as Dulux Trade Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash?
- Thoroughly rub down all previous coatings to provide a key and remove all traces of sanding dust with a lightly dampened microfibre cloth. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
- Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
Always do a test area before starting any project to test for compatibility and adhesion. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Please note: Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Flexible Undercoat is designed for brush application only and should not be sprayed.
- Stir the tin thoroughly before and periodically during use, making sure to include pigment gathered in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply 1 coat of the appropriately coloured undercoat
- Allow 2-4 hours to dry before overcoating
- Stronger colour changes may require a second coat
- Follow on with a suitable Dulux Trade Weathershield topcoat
Once Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Flexible Undercoat is dry, follow on with a suitable Dulux Trade Weathershield top coat, such as Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Paint.
