Earthborn Claypaint is excellent for painting a wide range of interior projects including walls, ceilings, woodwork and plaster- including lime plaster. A luxurious ultra-matt emulsion with great coverage and breathability. It's virtually VOC free with no unpleasant odours or emissions. It also carries the Safety of Toys Standard (EN71-3:2019), making it perfect for children's furniture and toys.
In the Earthborn paint ranges there are two white colours. This is because claypaint contains a high level of clay and much less Titanium Dioxide (a commonly used white pigment) than conventional white paints. This results in Claypaint "White Clay" having a uniquely softer, creamy look. For those who are looking for a brighter white, we'd suggest the slightly more durable Earthborn Lifestyle Emulsion Paint in "White" and you can match this with Earthborn Eggshell No. 17 Paint also in "White" for trim, skirting boards, doors and other planed surfaces. Alternatively, "White Clay" can be made to order in the other ranges to match in with your surfaces painted with Earthborn Claypaint.
- Try Earthborn Eco Chic Paint for the classic shabby chic look on smaller pieces of furniture
Please note: Colour mixing cut off is 4pm - for same day dispatch.
This product is mixed to order, so unfortunately you cannot return your unique paint, except for the colours below:
- Flower Pot
- Freckle
- Humpty Dumpty
- Marbles
- White Clay
- Why not create your own colour by mixing several standard colours together? Grab a few 100ml testers and have a play!
- Apply a wax or matt varnish for ultimate protection on areas that need a more durable finish.
- Apply a pale brown coloured wax to give an aged effect on antique looking projects
To achieve the best results with Earthborn paints, establish that the surfaces are structurally sound, free of imperfections such as dust dirt or any other surface contaminants.
- Remove all traces of loose or defective paint a stiff brush or cabinet scraper
- Powdery or dusty substrates should be treated with an appropriate sealer
- If a primer is required, use Earthborn Isolating Primer to stains that will bleed through your paint (such as water and nicotine). If no staining is present, Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer can be applied instead
- Smooth or non-absorbent substrates should be lightly abraded, removing any sanding dust when you're done
- Clay or Lime plaster should be lightly moistened before applying Earthborn Clay Paint
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Use only in well ventilated areas.
This is a natural product, there may be occasions where subtle variations in shade between batches occur. It's recommended to avoid starting a new container of paint in the middle of a project. When painting a large area, where possible, pour the required number of tins into a single container and mix thoroughly.
- Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use, making sure to include pigment gathered in the top and bottom creases of the tin
- Apply thinly and evenly with a clean and dry synthetic brush, microfibre roller or spray applicator
- Spread the paint out and lay-off the excess in all directions to avoid brush or roller marks
- Allow to dry for 6 to 12 hours before a successive coat is applied
- On paler, smoother surfaces, 1 coat is normally adequate
- For a significant change of colour, extra coats may be required
- With very absorbent surfaces, such as fresh plaster, use a prime coat diluted with up to 20% water and finish with a normal, undiluted final coat
Surfaces painted with Earthborn Clay Paint should reach full hardness after around 7-10 days. Avoid cleaning until then. If it does become marked after this point, wipe down with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. You can also remove some marks with a pencil eraser or fine emery paper.
When it's time for a refresh, simply apply a fresh coat of Earthborn Claypaint using the preparation and application instructions above.
