Farrow & Ball Flat Eggshell is a durable, low-sheen finish designed for interior wood, metal and concrete. Its refined low-sheen finish softens surfaces without compromising on strength, making it ideal for cupboards, trim, walls and more. The advanced water-based formula ensures a smooth, even application with quick drying, while maintaining excellent indoor air quality and safety for family living.
For the best results, surfaces should be clean, sound and properly prepared before applying Farrow & Ball Flat Eggshell.
- Remove loose or flaking paint with a scraper, sanding block or paint stripper.
- Take special care when preparing pre-1990s surfaces, as they may contain harmful lead.
- Wash away dirt, grease and other contaminants with a dilute sugar soap solution, then rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
- Fill cracks, holes or imperfections with a suitable filler, sanding smooth once cured.
- Lightly sand glossy or sealed areas to create a key for adhesion, then wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust.
- Apply an appropriate primer for the sustrate, choosing from either Farrow and Ball Metal Primer and Undercoat or Farrow and Ball Wood Primer and Undercoat for the right surface before topcoating.
Stir thoroughly before and during use. For best results, apply Farrow & Ball Flat Eggshell in dry conditions with good ventilation.
- Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C or above 30°C, or in high humidity.
- Use a high-quality synthetic brush or medium pile roller for a smooth, even finish. For larger projects, spraying may also be suitable.
- Feather out edges and work systematically from dry to wet areas to maintain an even sheen
- Apply two full coats of Flat Eggshell, allowing at least 4 hours drying time between coats.
- Maintain a wet edge during application to avoid visible brush or roller marks, especially when using darker shades.
- Allow paint to cure fully for up to 14 days before subjecting the surface to heavy use or cleaning.
With the right aftercare, Farrow & Ball Flat Eggshell will keep its refined finish and durability for years to come.
- Allow at least 14 days for the paint film to fully cure before carrying out any cleaning.
- To clean, gently wipe with a soft damp cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, especially bleach-based products.
- For more stubborn marks, use mild decorator's wipes or cleaning sprays, always testing on an inconspicuous area first.
- Touch-ups should be carried out with the same batch of paint to avoid slight colour or sheen variation. For the best results, repaint the full section or wall.
- To extend the life of the finish, avoid allowing water to pool on horizontal surfaces and ensure good ventilation in areas of high humidity.
