Can't decide on a colour? Try a 60ml Little Greene Absolute Matt Emulsion sample and explore the full range before committing. For best results, ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from grease, dust, or flaking material before you begin painting. As Little Greene Intelligent Eggshell is self-priming, making preparation straightforward, but proper surface preparation will always improve adhesion and durability.
- Carefully strip away any peeling, blistered, or damaged paint layers using a scraper, sander, or an appropriate Paint and Varnish Remover
- Be cautious when sanding or stripping older paint surfaces (pre-1960s), as these may contain traces of lead
- Fill cracks, holes, or imperfections with a suitable Filler and sand back to achieve a smooth, even finish
- Seal knots in softwood with knotting solution and clean any resinous hardwoods
- Allow fresh plaster to dry completely before applying a thinned first coat, which can act as a primer
- On bare or corroded metal, use two coats of Little Greene Intelligent All Surface Primer for best protection
- Sand glossy or deteriorated paint surfaces to provide a good key for adhesion
- Clean and abrade plastics thoroughly to maximise adhesion and long-term performance
Always carry out a small test patch before beginning the job to confirm colour, finish, and product suitability. Refer to the instructions on the tin throughout application.
Ensure good ventilation is maintained while painting and during drying.
For uniform results, make sure you have enough paint from the same batch to complete the entire project, with a little extra reserved for future touch-ups.
- Stir the paint well before starting and occasionally during use to keep it evenly mixed
- Apply 2-3 coats of Little Greene Intelligent Eggshell using a high-quality synthetic brush, roller, or spray equipment
- Allow between 1 and 4 hours drying time between coats depending on room conditions
- On freshly plastered surfaces, thin the first coat with 5-25% clean water to act as a primer before applying full coats
- Extra coats may be needed when covering strong or contrasting colours
To maintain the appearance and performance of your painted surfaces, follow these aftercare guidelines:
- Give the paint several days to fully cure before exposing it to regular cleaning or heavy use
- Remove everyday marks with a soft sponge or cloth and a mild solution of washing-up liquid in warm water
- Avoid scouring pads or strong cleaning products, as these may harm the eggshell finish
- When cleaning surrounding areas such as skirting boards, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to prevent scuffs on painted walls
- For repairs or touch-ups, gently sand the surface, prime if necessary, and repaint the full section ("break to break") for a consistent finish
