Overview

Sadolin Superdec Opaque Wood Protection is a water-based multi-surface coating perfect for use on wood, weathered plastic, steel, cladding, concrete, stone, plastisol, masonry, exterior doors, windows and all types of joinery. It erodes naturally by weathering, remaining flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking. It?s a modern solution to common issues associated with traditional paints. Sadolin Superdec can be applied to new and previously painted or stained projects. Perfect for use when a complete change of colour is required and where the existing surface has worn and become weathered.

This product is listed as a multi-surface product, however it cannot be used on wooden decking, flooring of any type, copper or polished concrete.

We mix this product to order, so unfortunately, with the exception of white, black and walnut, this product cannot be returned. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Preparation

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.

Wipe down any resinous deposits surrounding knots in the timber with methylated spirits, knotting agents should not be used
On very resinous timber, to minimise extractive discolouration of the coating (particularly with white and pale shades of Superdec) a blocking primer should be used
Organic growth must be treated with a suitable fungicidal cleaner
Fill all holes and surface defects with a suitable filler
Treat all bare wood with a suitable preservative prior to application of Sadolin Superdec
Lightly sand all previously painted wood for adhesion without breaking the coating
Remove any failing or defective coatings with a scraper or by sanding, strip back completely and treat as bare wood
Remove any weathered timber with light sanding and treat as bare wood
New non-ferrous metal should be washed down with detergent to remove any oil, grease or any other surface contaminants and rinsed thoroughly. Lightly abrade to a bright (but not polished surface) and prime with a suitable primer within the working day
Bright galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with a T-wash and primed with a suitable primer
Flatten off and smooth, shiny uPVC or plastic surfaces with a mildly abrasive pad to provide a key and clean with mild detergent and allow it to dry

Application

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Do not apply if there is a risk of rain, protect from frost and rain until dry. Do not thin.

Stir thoroughly before and during use, making sure to include pigment gathered in the top and bottom creases of the tin
Apply 3 full, flowing coats of Sadolin Superdec Opaque Wood Protection using a high quality, synthetic bristle brush
Pay special attention to end grain, the top and bottom parts of doors, windows, frames and sills
Allow 4 hours to dry between coats

Aftercare

Inspect annually for signs of wear. When it's time for a refresh, simply apply a fresh coat of Sadolin Superdec Opaque Wood Protection, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.
